An attempt is made to reconstruct the evolution of idoceratids (Perisphinctidae) during the Oxfordian. The subgenus Nebrodites (Passendorjeria) is supposed to be the ancestor of N. (Mesosimoceras), whilst N. (Enayites) subgen. n. of N. (Nebrodites) and possibly of Idoceras planula group. Both genera appear to be of European origin. Differentiation of Mediterranean and Submediterran.ean perisphinctidae appears questionable.
